Drought:
1. a prolonged period of dryness 2. a prolonged or chronic
shortage
There are many things
that can cause a drought just as there are many types of drought
..spiritual, emotional, loss of physical health, financial, mental. This
song is a prayer of faith & trust in God who alone can send the rain.
My dad, John W. Williams Jr.
suffered for years with various droughts or shortages in his life. He
suffered the loss of joy in 1973 when my 18 yr. old brother Steve lost his
life in a car wreck. Then my dad had a shortage of good health and lived
with chronic pain and suffering for years. But he
stepped into a much
deeper drought the day his wife
Frances,
my mother, was diagnosed with cancer in 1993. When she passed 30
days later, my father walked further into the wilderness & never came out.
He lived in a drought the rest of his days. Even now as I write these
words, it breaks my heart to think of it.
Send the Rain was written
in 1995 for and dedicated to my precious father as I watched him wait for
the rain.
Today I sing this song for all
the farmers and ranchers in the Southwest who are suffering from this
serious drought we're in. And I sing it for you if there is any
shortage in your life.
A Psalm of David
when he was in the wilderness in Judah.
"O GOD, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My
flesh longs for You in a dry & thirsty land where there is no water. So I
have looked for You in the sanctuary, to see Your power and Your
glory. Because your loving kindness is better than life, my lips shall
praise You. Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in
your name.
My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow & fatness, and my mouth shall
praise You with joyful lips. When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on
You in the night watches. Because You have been my help, Therefore in the
shadow of your wings I will rejoice. My soul follows close behind
You; Your right hand upholds me. Psalm 63: 1-8
SEND
THE RAIN - A Prayer
words & music by Beth Williams
The crops are in the field
Lord, under your Son
In the stillness I have labored, to get my work done
Oooooh....Send the rain....ooooh...Send
the rain
I pull my hat down to shade
my eyes, I watch & wait
for the burning air to disappear, and the sky to break
Oooooh....Send the rain....ooooh...Send
the rain
Bridge
Oh this drought makes me weary,
time leaves me less wise
Oh this drought makes me weary, look down you'll still see my eyes
Though the night falls, no
relief at all, my hope remains
In the shadow of the hand that holds cool, cool rain
Oooooh....Send the rain....ooooh...Send
the rain
In the
shadow of His hand He has hidden Me. Isaiah
49:2b
Do not forsake me,
O Lord; O my God, be not far from me! Make haste to help me, O Lord,
my salvation! Psalm 38: 21 & 22
I will
lift up my eyes to the hills- From whence comes my help?
My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.
Psalm 121:1
Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything
according to His will, He hears us. I John 5:14
