IN THIS OLD HOUSE

IN THIS OLD HOUSE song lyrics.  All songs written by Beth Williams

NOW (Don’t Look Back)

try & flow like a river….soar like a high flying bird

don’t be afraid – stand up and deliver

a new song no one has ever heard

love like you know Jesus…catch someone before they fall

say your prayers every morning

and say your prayers anytime at all

and don’t look back …be happy where you’re at now now …

don’t look back…. be happy where you’re at now….be happy now now

water your garden….tend to it every day

forgive and pardon …those who sin against you on your way

follow your passion …..then dance into the universe

brush your teeth, comb your hair …take a bath, clean the house….

remember – first things first yea

and don’t look back…be happy where you’re at now now

don’t look back…be happy where you’re at now….be happy now now now.. now.. now.. yea yea

don’t take things personal….no more wasting time ,stick to the plan

face your fear and when your fear says you can’t

shout “yes I can…oh yes I can”

stay humble…

remember there but for the grace of God tell the truth, do your best, assume nothing,

play ball with your dog…i said play ball with your dog

IN THIS OLD HOUSE

i remember the night i met him….i was singin’ in some old bar….

i’d had a pretty rough day….rough couple of years to tell the truth

he walked in the door and man you could of heard a heart drop

i looked in those brown eyes & thought

“oh Lord i hope he’s the one”

guess it was my lucky day …

wasn’t too long after that he brought me home

to this old house… i’ve been here every since

if these walls could talk , i bet they’d say

in this old house love lives every day

if these walls could talk, i bet they’d say

in this old house love lives & has its own way

if these walls could talk, i bet they’d say

love lives in this old house , it’ll never go way

it’ll never go away it’ll never go away…

love came to save the day

in this old house, in this white room,

past the brown chair, beside the tall lamp,

in this big bed , under these blue sheets with you….

love lives

in this old house, in this white room,

past the brown chair, beside the tall lamp,

in this big bed , under these blue sheets with you….

love lives

worries dissipate, my cares evaporate

every time i see your face

there’s no place i would rather be

than in this old house with you holdin’ me

wish i could freeze us in place

in this old house, in this white room,

past the brown chair, beside the tall lamp

in this big bed , under these blue sheets with you….

love lives

life says you gotta face the day,

get to work on time, you got bills to pay

i’d rather you stay right here instead

i got the ceiling fan blowing on this man i’m holding

i’m a holdin’, i’m a holdin’, and hey

watchin’ 2 big dogs lyin at the end of the bed

in this old house, in this white room,

past the brown chair, beside the tall lamp

in this big bed, under these blue sheets with you…

love lives

in this old house, in this white room,

past the brown chair, beside the tall lamp

in this big bed, under these blue sheets with you… l

ove lives

in this old house, love lives…

in this old house, love lives….

love love love lives

in this old house, in this white room,

past the brown chair, beside the tall lamp

in this big bed, under these blue sheets with you

love lives…. love lives

yea…i remember the night i met him….i was singin’ in some old bar…i’d had a pretty rough day

RUBY & JOHN

Ruby sits on the edge of the bed,

wearing old brown shoes & a scarf on her head

had her suitcase packed for nigh on 18 years

in her favorite cotton dress, she wants to look her best

when she steps back from this black veil of tears

Ruby’s ready to fly over the rainbow…Ruby’s ready to fly peacefully

over the rainbow, cross the river into the arms of john

standing knee-deep in water, wading patiently

seems like only yesterday ..she gave her young heart away

to the farm boy she met out on hornbeck pond

always said she knew right then walkin’ down the road with him

she would someday marry that boy john

Ruby’s ready to fly over the rainbow…Ruby’s ready to fly peacefully

over the rainbow, cross the river into the arms of john

standing knee-deep in water , wading patientl

through forty nine sweet years they saw love shine

soon it will be John & Ruby for all time

an old Bible on the edge of the bed, tattered & torn from being read

night after night alone there in her room

through an open window a cold wind blows …

a train whistle comes and goes

and leaves just the smell of ruby’s sweet perfume

Rubys ready to fly over the rainbow…Rubys ready to fly peacefully

over the rainbow, cross the river into the arms of john

standing knee deep in water, wading patiently

he’s standing knee deep in water wading patiently

he’s standing knee deep in water waiting patiently

VOICES

you say you’re not good enough, feelin’ old tired and all that stuff

you don’t think you’ll try your wings cause you’d surely fail

full of fear and self doubt,it overflows and comes out

sayin’ you’re homely you’re unworthy and your skins too pale

stop listening to voices, stop listening to voices inside your head

stop listening to voices, stop listening to voices, stop i said

you think you’ll stay inside today, the world’s mad at you anyway

cause you never do anything right …that’s what you say

so on a lonely ship you sailyou and your thoughts in a deep dark well

must be someway out of there and if i know, do tell…yea

stop listening to voices, stop listening to voices inside your head

stop listening to voices, stop listening to voices, stop i said

and the little girl standing in the corner

hides her face and hangs her head in shame

no one ever thought to warn her…

she would carry carry the memory

of hands and voices unrestrained

my advice if you care, ignore the chatter from upstairs

those childhood voices take you nowhere

but on the tour despair

lift your head hold it high, roll up your sleeves look at the sky

give it all you got go on now, fly….fly

stop listening to voices, stop listening to voices inside your head

stop listening to voices, stop listening to voices, stop i said

you say i’m not good enough, i’m old tired and all that stuff

O  D  I

o d i d a o d o… o d oughta let worry go

o d i d a o d o. ..o d oughta let worry go

you take life too seriously…everything is such a big deal

maybe if you listen to me ….we can lighten up the way you feel

ain’t no reason to wear that frown …

you can feel better if you open your soul

and your mind to a timeless sound

o d i d a o d o – o d oughta let worry go

o d i d a o d o – o d oughta let worry go

lookin’ on the dark side keeps you from seeing the glass half full

there is no other shoe,no need to push push pull

it’s time to relax release ,return to an upward climb

give yourself to the notion letting go is an ocean,

drink up and you’ll be fine.

o d i d a o d o – o d oughta let worry go

o d i d a o d o – o d oughta let worry go

let go let go let go let go let go let gO

MASON SUNSET

i had all but given up on ever finding true love ….

too much bad luck when I was younger

then you came riding into my life,

a weathered western white knight ,

slaying pain & heartaches thunder

and there were no more tears in the night

CHORUS

When i saw the sunset waiting in your eyes……

i was caught in a love net under clear country skies

i’ll never regret the moment you arrived …

a mason sunset waiting in your eyes

with a mason sunset waiting in your eyes

if i could live my life again….i’d watch the west texas wind

that was blowing my way

knowing soon you’d be coming for me,

i’d wait so patiently ’til all the prayers that i prayed

got their answer that night

When i saw the sunset waiting in your eyes…

i was caught in a love net under clear country skies

i’ll never regret the moment you arrived no no..

.a mason sunset waiting in your eyes

with a mason sunset waiting in your eyes….

mason, texas sunset waiting in your eyes

THIS FARM

i come to this town..i bought this place

cause the air was cleanand the nights were safe

fifty years i been a livin’ here in peace

’till a city man bought land and started changing the scenery yea

beer cans on the dirt road, the clean countryside is gone

as for my privacy, all kind of strangers looking on

when i get to the highway well there’s a bar that opened up

joe drove off, died drunk last night,

city man blamed it on bad luck yea

city man, get your city hands far from this farm

city man, get your city hands far from this farm

go back where, go back where, back where you belong yea

city man get your city hands far from this farm

now let me see if i got this straight

you come to this town, you saycause you like the place

why on earth have you done everything

you could to change its small sweet face?

you say change is good well mister here’s a nickle and a dime

for every little town that grew and didn’t grow in crime crime

so now i gotta lock my car my house

and keep my pretty baby inside

like a train running, troubles coming ,

i can feel it’s gonna hit us broadside

if you wanted to live in the city

why’d you come here?

your overblown sense of entitlement

is screaming in my ear

city man get your city hands far from this farm

city man get your city hands far from this farm

go back where go back where

back where you belong yea

city man get your city hands far from this farm

far from this farm go….far from this farm go

far from this farm ..far from this farm yea yea yea

A LADDER I CAN CLIMB

i’m down a little too low or the road is just too high

got no way to get out of this creek bed that is dry

send me a ladder or throw me a line

send me a ladder i can climb yea

spinning wheels kickin’ hot dust in the air

you’d think by now i would know spinning don’t get me nowhere

send me a ladder or throw me a line

send me a ladder i can climb

i’ve tried and i’ve tried and i’ve tried,what else can i do?

i’m tired i’m tired i’m tired of waiting on you …yea yea yea

i’ve got my hands up so would you please be so kind

as to tell little miss lady luck it sure nuff would be fine if she could

THE GIRL

life can flow like a river

or life can beat you like a drum

i don’t think that mans been delivered..

i don’t think the devils on the run

as the dirty water whips you

round and round and round

and the spinning whirlpool

starts to suck you down

“good God” you cry

” i believe that i will drown”

in this small hot dusty texas town

johnny’s on the run out to get the girl

johnny’s got a gun, sheriff go and call the world

yea he’s come undone cuz she’s such a pretty pearl

there’s work to be done he’s gotta get the girl

love is supposed to be a sweet dream ..

a breeze of beauty in the night

my guess is the lonely sound of your scream

will freeze him forty years to life

as the dirty water whips you

round and round and round

and the spinning whirlpool

starts to suck you down

“good God” you cry “i believe that i will drown”

in this small hot dusty texas town

johnny’s on the run out to get the girl

johnny’s got a gun, sheriff go and call the world

yea he’s come undone cuz she’s such a pretty pearl

there’s work to be done he’s gotta get the girl

BIG BAD BLUES

i got a dark cloud follow me everywhere

and a black cat waitin’ when i get there

i got a dark cloud follow me everywhere

a black cat waitin’ when i get there

somebody please set me free from the big bad blues

i got a great big river full of my tears,

enough to keep me busy swimmin’ for years

i got a great big river full of my tears,

enough to keep me busy swimmin’ for years

somebody please set me free from the big bad blues

talkin’ bout the big bad blues,

those big bad blues have mercy on me

big bad blues talkin’ bout the big bad,

big bad big bad blues

somebody please set me free from the big bad blues

well there’s not enough medicine whiskey or wine,

not enough of nothin’ ever ease my mind

not enough medicine whiskey or wine,

not enough of nothin’ ever ease my mind

somebody please set me free from the big bad blue

MY GOD & I

she said “you’re a novice in your Christian walk,

you’re not qualified….you won’t do”

and i thought “excuse me but you don’t know me

who i am where i’ve been or what i’ve come through”

won’t you come to my house for dinner?

let me bake you homemade bread and sweet ham

it was long ago i was a drunk and a sinner

let me show you how much better i am

my house is clean and there’s a warm fire burnin’

the 2 cats are fed and my chores are all done

every bill is paid and i’m not in any trouble

look and see how far i have come

i look life in the eye…get up if i fall stand tall

and look life in the eye….my God and i

there was a time my mind couldn’t see straight

all of those years i can’t undo what’s done

but i’ve been forgiven i been a livin’

a good life up each day with the Son

i look life in the eye…get up if i fall stand tall

and look life in the eye…my God and i

life’s too short to live like a beggar

i don’t need your approval i do as i please

but let me say right now for the record

we’re doin’ fine thank you my God & me

so won’t you come to my house for dinner

let me bake you homemade bread and sweet ham

it was long ago i was a drunk and a sinner

let me show you how much better i am

WISH YOU WELL

if i was a rubber ball i’d bounce back into your life

or a telephone call i’d ring day & night

if i was a falling rain i’d wash the years away

we’d be standing toe to toe face to face

though you’re nowhere to be found

in my heart you’re still around

and i wish you well i wish you well

i wish you well

i wish you well i wish you well i wish you well

where you are

if i was a hot cup of tea i’d be on your tabletop

or a tall willow tree i’d bend ’till you said stop

if i was a bright blue bird i’d be at your windowsill

tap tap tappin’ on the glass come tell me how you feel yea

though you’re nowhere to be found

in my heart you’re still around

and i wish you well i wish you well

i wish you well

i wish you well i wish you well i wish you well

where you are

well i’m not a rubber ball a telephone call or falling rain

not a hot cup of tea a tree or a bird at your window pane

what i am is sorry you’re not in my life

what i am is sorry you’re not here tonight

though you’re nowhere to be found

in my heart you’re still around

I LIKE DOGS   Dedicated to my beautiful English Mastiff, Amazing Grace

I like dogs…and dogs like me

But I don’t get along with most people I see

I’m sure the whole problem is that I’m just ornery

I don’t play well with others, so glad I discovered

that I like dogs and dogs like me.

Verse 1

No matter what I say… no matter what I do

I can’t get people to act like they should

or should I say like I want them to

I guess I’m just destined to live life almost alone

but I don’t worry, I got a bunch of furry

friendly fluffy dogs at home.

Verse 2

If God has a dog it’s an English Mastiff & her name is Grace

She weighs 200 pounds & has a big soft face

He know she would never, ever sin against him

When he created the dog that wise old God

made a picture perfect loving friend

Bridge

My husband says he wants to come back

as one of my dogs in his next life

Coz I treat them better than kings & queens

and it’s the only time I’m really nice.

FREEDOM

I met Dr. Jamie Wu when I decided to try Acupuncture to help with writers block, depression, inability to focus and several physical concerns. One of the things that impressed me most from the moment we met was Dr. Wu’s sincere concern for my well being. His treatments helped me tremendously. In fact, almost all of the songs on “In This Old House” were written after I started seeing Dr. Wu. Not only did the treatments unblock my writers block, but my songwriting became more positive and I found myself writing from a much deeper place.

Dr. Wu and I became friends and after hearing him sing at a workshop, I asked him to sing a Bonus Track on “In This Old House”   FREEDOM is an ancient Chinese folk song that he sings in his native tongue.

Freedom (0:54)

There are white clouds floating in the blue sky

under it there are groups of white sheep on the grass

The white sheep look like the white clouds

relax like the sheep, like the clouds, relax
