This song is about my own deep feelings of inadequacy, fear and self doubt.  Most of us have experienced "negative chatter" in our minds...an inner voice that tells us we're not good enough, we're worthless etc.  These lies &  dark thoughts can immobilize us, make us unable to move forward in our lives, doing those things we've been  called to do.

Quench the fiery darts of the wicked one....stop listening to voices......

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.   Proverbs 23:7a

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.   Ephesians 6: 12 - 16

 voices (3:56)
words & music by Beth Williams

you say you're not good enough,
feelin' old tired and all that stuff
you don't think you'll try your wings
cause you'd surely fail
full of fear and self doubt,
it overflows and comes out
sayin' you're homely you're unworthy
and your skins too pale

stop listening to voices,
stop listening to voices inside your head
stop listening to voices,
top listening to voices, stop i said

you think you'll stay inside today,
the world's mad at you anyway
cause you never do anything right ...that's what you say
so on a lonely ship you sail
you and your thoughts in a deep dark well
must be someway out of there and if i know, do tell...yea

stop listening to voices,
stop listening to voices inside your head
stop listening to voices,
stop listening to voices, stop i said

and the little girl standing in the corner
hides her face and hangs her head in shame
no one ever thought to warn her...
she would carry carry the memory
of hands and voices unrestrained

my advice if you care ,
ignore the chatter from upstairs
those childhood voices take you nowhere
but on the tour despair
lift your head hold it high,
roll up your sleeves look at the sky
give it all you got go on now, fly....fly

and stop listening to voices,
stop listening to voices inside your head
stop stop listening to voices,
stop listening to voices, stop i said

you say i'm not good enough, i'm old tired and all that stuff
